The Dasara elephants continued to train with weights at the famous Mysuru Palace premises for the fourth day on Thursday.

Abhimanyu, who will likely carry the golden howdah of 750 kg during the Jamboo Savari, managed to carry sandbags weighing 500 kg.

Strength training began Monday and authorities are training the jumbos in three cycles. During the first cycle, Abhimanyu did some strength training and during the second and third days, Dhananjaya and Gopalaswamy carried sandbags mounted on their backs.

During the first cycle, the elephants carried sandbags weighing around 275 kg. Deputy Forest Conservator (DCF) Wildlife V Karikalan said the elephants are successfully training. The elephants will be forced to walk 3 km with weight and 3.5 km without weight, the officer said.

In order to ensure good health and improve their physical condition, elephants are put on a special diet from Wednesday. They gain weight during their stay in Mysuru to participate in Dasara.
